Deema Tamimi

Land & Land
Founder and CEO
Deema is the Founder and CEO of Land & Land, a nonprofit organization focused on building equitable and sustainable food systems in the Yolo and Sacramento region. Land & Ladle aims to raise awareness and tackle food system issues via technology, educational programs, marketing, advocacy and community development. Giving Garden, a mobile and web app developed by the Land & Ladle team, helps people grow and share food with one another.

Deema has focused much of the past two years on agriculture and food innovation, co-founding and leading the marketing and community development for The VINE, an initiative of The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources with a mission to grow the AgTech and FoodTech sectors in California with a deeper connection to science and data-backed research. As part of this effort, The VINE is also working with Dutch leaders to create meaningful and actionable collaborations between California and The Netherlands on sustainable food and ag advancements.

Deema is particularly interested in food waste as an opportunity for stronger, more equitable, sustainable and local food systems and believes that policy and economic development efforts play a key role in meeting the potential of this opportunity. At the end of last year she, along with Dr. Catherine Brinkley, Professor in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at UCD, Ann M. Evans, author of the Davis Farmer’s Market Cookbook and former Mayor of Davis, with Diane Parro, under the auspices of the Davis City Council, gathered 30 local leader in food and agriculture, including council members and Mayor Brett Lee, to discuss the potential of food and agriculture in Davis. From these meetings, a recommendation to the City of Davis on both policy and economic development opportunities for Davis in regard to food and agriculture will be presented.

Prior to her shift to food and agriculture, Deema was a product and marketing leader in the media and tech spaces in Seattle and the Bay Area. She worked at Xbox at Microsoft, YouTube at Google, and most recently led product and performance marketing at Flipboard, focusing on user growth and retention.
A Seattle native and University of Washington grad, Deema now lives in Davis with her family after a long stint in San Francisco. She's passionate about community building both online and offline and is particularly interested in food, media and art, social justice and how our cities and society will evolve in the future. She’s an entrepreneur, creative maker, and sustainable food advocate who leans in for fairness, peace, love and happiness.
