Dr. John de la Parra is an ethnobotanist and plant chemist. He holds appointments as an Associate at Harvard University, within the Harvard University Herbaria, and as a Research Scientist at MIT, working as the Research Lead for the MIT Media Lab's Open Agriculture Initiative. He also teaches as a Lecturer of Environmental Studies at Tufts University, and a Lecturer of Biotechnology within the Graduate Biotechnology Program at Northeastern University's Biopharmaceutical Analysis Training Laboratory. Before earning his PhD in chemistry, Dr. de la Parra grew up on a farm in rural Alabama, with his family originating from México. His grandmother’s early teachings on plants inspired him to work with indigenous populations to understand how human selection influences plant-based drug discovery and food choice.
